Career advice - call it? Wrt job search / switching fields

TLDR at the bottom.

3 yoe in banking, another 3 in PE / buyout GE at very well-known $3bn+ MM funds. Didn't get promo to VP in last role, been unemployed for a year now. Been through many interview processes and haven't landed anything. Finally got an offer for a vp of finance role in a growing healthcare company. Advice on what to do?

Pros:

  • a lot of exposure / responsibility, would definitely learn and be notable member of the company
  • solid base compensation (230-260k)
  • team relatively young, with solid growth so far and whitespace in market
  • could finally end the job search, which has been mentally exhausting

Cons:

  • in a tier 2 city that I'm not super excited about (but have ties to)
  • decent equity upside exists as part of comp package but likely not life-changing
  • feels like if i were to switch now to a startup type company, it would be would stupid for it to not be AI-related (and this one isn't)

Other notes:

  • job search has been exhausting but i could keep going if needed
  • i don't have a strong vision as to what my "ideal" career would be 5-10 years down the line. i could see myself in a pe / asset mgmt seat, or IB, or mgmt role. All things equal would maybe think mgmt role (COO, CEO, CFO) would be most interesting, followed by PE. but i would prefer to not keep playing the politics game to get the VP / principal / MD promotions. also think the inherent allure of PE (meaning the long-term carry potential) is also significantly lower than it was 5-10 years ago
  • I'm not a super flashy person. I would be ok with LT comp all-in range of ~450k+ in a tier 1 or 2 city (realize that sentence sounds absurd but i just mean I don't need to be making $1m+ like those in PE senior careers).
  • i'm not super interested in healthcare either, more interested in a) tech / tech svcs or b) consumer / consumer svcs

Would appreciate advice from anyone who has been in a similar position.

tldr: got a job offer in strat finance paying circa 250k + sub 1% equity. past exp in IB and PE. Been unemployed for a year. What should i do?

This is a great job, take it! I’ve seen people go from corp dev in niche industry back into PE in LMM but solid shops. Comp here is solid, with upside. Always easier to be more choosy on the next thing when having something and the story here plays - you wanted to take a shot on something early while staying close to finance
