Career Advice - From Product Mgmt (Top Bank) to Investing
Hi Everyone,
I’m new to this platform and would genuinely appreciate some advice.
I’ve been with the same product management team at a top-tier BB bank for 5 years. I’ve been a top performer with a good future here (3 promotions in 5 years), but more and more, I’ve felt stuck—completing my work on muscle memory, and the idea of advancing to my manager’s role doesn’t excite me.
I want to pivot into a field where I can build a long-term career with great earning potential. Investing is something I enjoy, though I wouldn’t say I have the same level of hunger for wealth as the top guys. I’m an introvert (not the most articulate), naturally curious, and competitive (to a degree).
My background:
- STEM degree with some understanding of software development, AI, and financial modeling
- 5 years of operating experience at a bank
- No work experience in investing
- Some family connections that can help me fundraise if I prove myself down the road
I’m exploring paths in HF/VC/Growth/PE (likely in this order), and looking for advice on how to pivot. If you think this isn’t the right path for me, I’d also love to hear why.
Any advice is greatly appreciated! If you are in New York, I'd be happy to grab a coffee and chat!
