Career Fit

Hi Guys - Been having some career thoughts/questions and I feel this can be relatable to most people so all perspectives are welcome.

It is hard not to question the process by which we all choose careers. Some do for the money/prestige, others for their genuine interests, others for what they are good at. In some ways, I can see a pattern emerge. Generally, it seems the best practice is to begin with what area you are interested in, become good at it with some basic skill overlap, and then make the money. I encourage anyone to disagree, as I am mostly thinking out loud.

On this basis, would it not serve everyone best to involve themselves in a field or area they are interested in, regardless of the pay/wlb/skills they have?

To this end, I am having a very hard time determining what areas I am most interested in. For some background, I  am interested in finance mainly because it is what I grew up with. Both my parents were traders, so the traditional "job" I grew up looking up to was that. However, my skills are in writing and researching. I don't like building models or excel spreadsheets, I am far more creative. I am just struggling to identify careers that suit good writers who do not fit the traditional excel mold.

Again, mainly trying to determine what careers would be good for me high level.

Thanks in advance
