CB (CIB) To IB

Have seen posts before but am a current CB Coverage analyst at a top BB. Have several internships in both PE and IB as well as good gpa and a T20 undergrad school.

Did training with IB and find CB incredibly boring and repetitive rather than interesting deals and IB coverage were I want to be. Any advice on tips to lateral to IB without waiting 1/2 years. Appreciate any help.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are a few tips to help you make a lateral move from CB to IB:

  1. Networking: Start by reaching out to people in the IB department. This could be through LinkedIn, alumni networks, or even internal company events. Make sure to express your interest and ask for advice on making the transition.

  2. Leverage Your Experience: Highlight the skills and experiences you've gained in CB that are relevant to IB. This could include financial analysis, client management, or deal experience.

  3. Prepare for Interviews: Brush up on your technical skills and be ready to answer why you want to make the switch to IB.

  4. Timing: While it's ideal to wait for a year or two before making a lateral move, if you're unhappy in your current role, it might be worth exploring opportunities sooner.

Remember, every journey is unique and these are just general tips. It's important to consider your own circumstances and goals. Good luck!
