Coffee post rejection for job

I was interviewing for an entry level position for a REPE decision and didn't do well in the LBO case study, it was beyond what I knew. I made it to the final round. When it finished I did the usual, reach out and email the people a thank you. However one of the guys who was quite senior in the company was really receptive post rejection and so on, asked me to tell him where I end up etc.

Anyway, he said he would like to meet up with me for a coffee in a couple months once I come back from from my internship in PE from Europe. What does this mean? Anything I should prepare about? I realise this may seem like a basic question.

I was in a similar spot and for me it was basically just him learning from about me. He said to grab a bite, which turned to dinner which then turned to us drinking till late and getting drunk. He went from liking me to being ready to go to bat for me at any PE firm that I wanted to apply to (he's high up in a lean PE firm). Basically, I think you should approach it like a coffee chat and have your basics down.

My $0.02.
