Cold Emails Ignored

So I sent out 25 cold emails yesterday to mostly associates at BBs at around 8-9am but I have only received one reply back.

Did I do something wrong? My emails were along the format of:

"Dear X,

I hope you are well.

I have recently graduated from ___ having ___ and I am interested in a career within investment banking. I am reaching out to ask if you would be able to speak with me to share your experiences as well as any advice you might have for me.

I understand you too studied at ___ and I would appreciate the opportunity to introduce myself as well as to learn more about your experiences in the ___ team with __(BB name)__. Please let me know when would work best for you.

Regards,

__ "

Do bankers just take a while to reply or might I have just messed up?

I've been ignoring all recruit emails because I cannot in good conscience reccomend this job.

If you hop on the phone with me I will tell you to switch majors to comp sci, finish med school prereqs and study for mcat, or recruit for consulting or entry level Corp dev or fin rotational programs.  Don't feel like crushing a kids dreams so I ignore.

100% not trolling.

I get reached out to a lot and usually only reply to people who I think have a decent background already and solid shot to get in. If you already graduated, depending on what your current full time job is, it could be tough to get reaction. What are you doing post grad?

Im doing a masters next year so im technically in my penultimate year and will be applying for SA positions soon. Perhaps I should have mentioned that in the email.

Also anecdotal experience but I’ve found that if you do reach out - do it on LinkedIn , most people don’t like getting unexpected emails in their(company email) inbox.

Learnt it the hard way but there is no real benefit of networking really here other than having names to drop on your CL or a referral at best.

Are you suggesting networking in the US is easier for non target ?

100% yes, it doesn’t carry much/any weight for entry level roles in UK

I do live in Europe and I did and will be going to a target. Thank you. Might as well stop the networking efforts and work on my résumé lol.

Only thing reaching out to analysts is realistically useful for is speaking to their experience when interviewing for their firm. Answering stuff like why this bank / deals done by this bank etc.

Not many analysts refer randoms that cold linkedin message and spoke to them for 15 mins

Do banks filter out emails from a gmail address? I have been emailing a few associates/VPs/MDs at banks and haven’t received any replies. Was wondering if they are even reaching the bankers LOL
