Consulting jobs in life science boutique firm - cold emailing ok?

I'm a senior from a well-known Canadian university (I have dual citizenship though) majoring in chemistry and economics with a minor in biochemistry. My overall GPA is in low 3.7 (one really bad year where I had 3.2, but other years are 3.9+).

I was wondering whether it is too late to apply for entry-level position at life science boutique firms in the US at this point. At the beginning of this school year, I had an inflated sense of ego about my qualifications so I only applied to McKinsey, BCG, and Oliver Wyman. But I didn't even end up getting interviews from any one of those and I feel like a total idiot for not applying more.

In terms of work experience, I don't have any consulting experience. The closest experience where I "consulted" (broadly speaking) is tutoring and teaching a small chemistry and calculus class for high school students. Otherwise, most of my summer was spent on doing research projects (I don't have publications yet but currently have 2 pending publications, but both are really medicine-specific so I don't think it would be that relevant to consulting jobs). Between here and there, I also got involved in volunteering positions as well. I am pretty good with dealing with numbers but I don't have any concerete experiences in banking/finance industries.

I remember coming across a post where someone posted a list of life sci boutique firms in US cities. Basically, I've been told that submitting resumes through the websites is pretty useless. I'm getting kicked out of my apartment at the end of April with lack of certainties about my future and it's lot scarier now that 2012 is almost over :( .

Now that I finished ranting about my life, I want to ask whether I have any future in consulting. Should I keep applying for more consulting companies or should I also apply to jobs in accounting/finance etc..? Is it worth just having a thick skin and then getting through? Ideally, traveling might be nice but I don't want to aimlessly travel around the world wihtout having any clues about my future.

I would appreciate if anyone could provide any constructive suggestions!!!

thanks and hope you all enjoy the holiday season!
