Controller to IR/product specialist possibilities

Hi all. New to the message board. I am a controller at a small PE company and a CPA. I am so bored and tired of the accounting part of my job. we do not have an IR team, so getting to lead that (excluding the fundraising piece) has been my favorite part of the job and I have created an IR focused resume  I help lead investor meetings create the PowerPoints for all of the meetings and create the quarterly reports/performance quarterly. The issue is anytime I reach out to a recruiter for IR they won’t take a chance on me because of my accounting background. I am willing to take a pay cut and a lower level position to get out of my misery and know I can excel in IR. If I am having no luck with a recruiter and minimal luck in my network is there any other tips that anyone has to be able to make this transition?
