Don’t know what to do

Looking to get some advice as I honestly am the most lost I’ve been thus far in my life. For context I am a recent college graduate who just got fired from a consulting/capital markets type job for “negative attitude” after only 4 months on the job. Not that it matters now, but my boss just absolutely hated me and played clear favorites with the other kid on my team (ex: go get dinner and drinks with the other kid during their 1 on 1 feedback meeting but cancel ours every week). There were things I would have done differently, but once I made a bad impression on this guy I could tell it was impossible to change his perception. This created a toxic work environment and thus a feedback loop where I hated working for this guy and despite my best efforts I’m sure that was reflected.

I took this role very late in the recruiting process, and was never super excited about it. I went to a T20 semi target and spent my junior summer at a LMM IB as a summer analyst. I wasn’t brought back due to headcount issues, and despite having interviews and superdays all over the board, could not find an IB full time position.

Now, I’m back at my parents’ house with no idea what I’m supposed to do. Get an MBA? Is getting back on the IB networking grind feasible? How do I explain/spin this last job not working? Any advice or commentary at all would be huge because I don’t even know who to talk to about this

You mad a bad initial impression on your boss based on your own comments. Figure out how not to do it again. New grads need to recognize that their job is to make their boss happy, not to be well-paid for feeling happy. There seems to be a lack of that understanding currently. Take this as a lesson learned and get better.

You say that your boss took the other recent grad out...did he avoid you because you were miserable to be around? I'd guess that you need to do a deep self-reflection before you can decide what you want to do next and if you will be successful at it.
