Don't want to do PE Anymore - How to tell firm?

AN2 at a BB that signed an offer early into my first-year for a PE role.

After a year of working in my current banking GIG, I've realized I'm not very keen to leave for PE after my second-year (as I'm scheduled to).

Has anyone dealt with this before? How should i go about dealing with this - should I contact the recruiter or the firm? I want to let them know ASAP so that there is still time for them to find a replacement (relatively small firm).

Appreciate any insight here, really struggling with how to go about this as I just know I won't be happy in my next role / will end up leaving....
