Down on luck but trying to get back on the grind asap

Hey guys, unfortunately was laid off from an ops related role at a MF. Can't give too much detail but in a time crunch for getting new roles in NYC. Open to private messaging. My background is good for TA/Portfolio roles and have been hauling ass on Linkedin applying to jobs and messaging everyone under the sun for leads. Figured I'd post on here if anyone in AM or S&T desk has a need for a junior on their team and knows of anyone hiring. Anything helps guys. Thank You

Based on previous WSO threads, here are some actionable steps you can take to get back on track:

  1. Networking:

    • Continue leveraging LinkedIn to connect with professionals in Asset Management (AM) and Sales & Trading (S&T).
    • Reach out to alumni from your school who are in the industry.
    • Attend industry events and webinars to meet potential employers.
  2. Target Smaller Firms:

    • Smaller Asset Management firms often need junior staff. Make a list of local smaller AM firms and start reaching out directly.
    • Cold call and email firms to inquire about open positions.
  3. Tailor Your Applications:

    • Customize your resume and cover letter for each application to highlight relevant skills and experiences.
    • Emphasize your experience in TA/Portfolio roles and any transferable skills from your previous ops role.
  4. Utilize WSO Resources:

    • Engage with the WSO community by posting in relevant forums and seeking advice from experienced members.
    • Look for job postings on WSO and other finance-specific job boards.
  5. Prepare for Interviews:

    • Brush up on technical skills and industry knowledge.
    • Practice common interview questions and scenarios specific to AM and S&T roles.
  6. Stay Positive and Persistent:

    • Keep a positive mindset and stay persistent in your job search.
    • Follow up on applications and networking conversations to keep yourself top of mind.

If anyone in the WSO community has leads or knows of hiring opportunities, please reach out to the user directly via private messaging. Good luck!
