Dream job interview denial email
Hi, So a week ago I accepted a offer for a full time job out of college. It is not my ideal job and I only accepted it so I can have a job upon graduation. Three days later, I got a email from the job of my dreams asking me to come in and interview. Whats the best way I can write my email response so that I state the fact that I already accepted an offer but am still open to the opportunity in the near future ? I plan on working at my current job for a year max and then re applying to my dream job. I dont want this to hurt my chances in the future
Hi rd122596, check out these links:
I hope those threads give you a bit more insight.
I'll take a stab at your question. I was in a similar situation as you. I accepted a analyst role at a commercial real estate firm, and a while later, I was invited to interview at a management consulting firm.
Here's what I did: I wrote the management consulting firm an email message letting them know that I accepted another offer. I was really thinking about interviewing because I would be playing with house money. I didn't have that pressure of my back of needing this interview to be perfect because I already had a job offer.
Fast forward to now and now I'm looking to switch employer and I applied to the management consulting firm once again not too long ago and the day after I applied, they sent me an email rejection.
Perhaps they saw in their system that they sent me a interview invitation and I declined and they didn't want to bother with me again because I wasn't serious about them the first time they invited me.
I can't answer your question and I'm not going to try. It's your decision after all. Obviously you could probably get on Google and find email templates to send to the employers. You may have already done that and this comment may have reached you too late, but think about the situation from the employer side.
As for me, perhaps if I interviewed with the consulting firm and didn't get the job, they would at least know I was interested in their firm. And if I did interview and moved on to the next stage, and dare I say, get an offer, I would happily renege on the previous offer and chose my dream industry/job. Easier lateral and exit opps.
Hope this provided you with a framework in mind and a reference for future dilemmas.
Definitely interview - you gotta do what you gotta do, and an interview is non committal.
Plus, if it is actually your "dream job", then this probably means an entry to your current dream career. That opportunity just out of school is too good to give up.
I would personally interview with them if I were you -- you never know what happens, and you gotta do what's best for you.
Interview, are you crazy? Doesnt mean you get an offer and doesnt mean you take the job, but what do you have to lose by interviewing?
