Email Follow Up With Company I Work With

So this is a little different situation, I had a phone interview with a director and he said they were very early in the process but wanted to bring me in. 3-4 weeks later I didnt hear anything so I had followed up and he said he would check with hr and if i didnt hear anything in a week or so email him back. I emailed him back a little more than a week later and have heard nothing. Do I email again another week or so after of let it go?

Where it gets interesting is that I frequently do work with the company and the person I interviewed with is often on the same deals and will be on the conference calls and what not so I obviously don't want to annoy him or also make it awkward

  1. are you sure the director is the person you should be following up with? if he asked you to check with HR, stop contacting him. if he said "go through me," then yes, keep following up with him.

  2. this week is a write off, it's 4th of July, lots of people on vacation. chill out.

  3. try a phone call next time, like early morning or late evening when he's likely not tied up in meetings, or ask for his secretary. if you make nice with the assistant, that will be your best shot at getting a return call.

the director is the only person Ive talked to no HR has been involved. In his email he said "I'll check but feel free to reach back out to me in a week or so". I'm just trying to play it safe and try to fade out if its not going to happen rather than pester him as i will have to work with them in the future and dont want it to be awkward.

Due to the time of year, I would say there is a possible week delay just due to holidays/vacations. I would follow up and word the email something like "You mentioned that I should follow back up with you in a week or so if I did not hear anything. I just wanted make sure that there was no new information available or that I didn't miss something, as I am still very interested in......" Sort of the "did you try to call me?, because I was on the phone and thought maybe you tried to call" excuse to contact. One last time, remain thankful and inquisitive and I think it will keep you ok in future dealings with him.
