Engineer trying to break into Corporate Banking - MEGATHREAD

I am an Industrial Engineer from a top public university (for engineering) with a 3.4 GPA and a 3.7 Major GPA, and I am really passionate about breaking into FO at a BB. This summer I will be interning in a BB in the risk division not at NYC.

I am looking to find a full time gig in the FO of a BB, primarily Corporate Banking but I am not sure if my stats are right. I was also thinking on applying to transaction banking and/or treasury services.

So my questions are: 1. Should I go for the stretch and apply for Corporate Banking even though their required GPA is a 3.5? 2. Should I apply to the other FO divisions that have lower GPA requirements (3.2)? 3. Should I stick with risk just for the sake of making it in NYC and then try to move up?

THIS IS FOR **2019 FULL TIME **

Thanks,

Well TBH I didn't know anything about the IB world and so I didn't apply to any FO positions. For the risk gig, I applied online and I somehow got into the last round of SuperDays. Can you share some advice on how you broke into finance as an engineer?

P.S. I know I have to network hard, just don't know how to do it either. I am a foreigner, which is why I didn't know much.

How old are you? May sound too personal, but I posted a similar thread on this board in the past. I'm an EE who got burned out on the travel. I tried the Financial Advisor route, which is a far cry from what you want to do, but even with that career path, making the transition at 50 was impossible.

One of the regs on here stated he made a career change at 30 into finance and it damned near killed him doing it, so age is an issue.

I chose to go back to engineering. I realized I wouldn't make it as a FA and I realized that after 20+ years as an engineer, I am what I am.

Good luck. Some of the finance/IB/RE/VC guys/gals on here can give you tips on networking.
