Explaining a Low GPA

Just finished 2nd year at a non-target, interned at a Search Fund & currently at a LMM PE fund.

Have a low GPA due to my dad getting laid off at work and having to travel back and fourth between uni and work (2 different cities), as well as once COVID hit, I had to take care of my mom and sister who have mental health issues.

My CGPA is 2.5 and MGPA is 3.0, taking summer courses and expected to have a CGPA of 3.0 and MGPA of 3.4. I'll also be repeating some courses in Fall to boost my CGPA to around 3.3-3.5.

But by the time my summer transcripts and "improved GPA" come out it'll be too late to include them in my application. Meaning banks will see my 2.5 MGPA & 3 CGPA.

What do I do in this situation? Explain in a cover letter? Explain to the few alumni and have my resume pushed? Do a fifth year?

Any & all advice is appreciated!
