Federal Reserve Bank (NYC) Interview / Career Advice

Hi all. I recently got laid off from a Big4 Deals group a few weeks ago. I only have 1 year of work experience (graduated from college in 2022) as this was my first job. Honestly, I have been applying to different types of jobs ranging from Data Analyst to Equity Research. I initially wanted to transition into the investment/asset management field, but at this point i just need a job lol. I am trying to increase my chances of just getting ONE job lol. Sent about 60 apps, got rejected from a handful, a few HR calls, but nothing more than that. recently, after each job I connected and messaged the recruiters, but they only accepted my request and didn't respond to my message hmm. I know its only been a few weeks, but I am feeling very down. I did get an interview for FRBNY for their Regulatory Data Associate, but to be honest it is not really a finance position and I am afraid it is gonna hinder my career path/exit opportunities. Just seeking some help or any advice for this interview and wtf to do next!

Heres a basic description of the job i have an interview for. I don't know what to expect but I'll get some interview practice regardless:
The Data & Statistics Function’s mission is to increase utility and ability to leverage financial data through standardization, thoughtful collection design, and increase capacity of the Function to scale operations. You will be part of the Financial Analysis Services Team (FAST) covering International and Domestic Markets (IDM). The FAST team is responsible for performing data analysis, building out and managing analytical products and ongoing stakeholder and respondent management on interpretive reporting topics. You will be a part of the Securities and Holdings team within the larger Financial Analysis Services Team (FAST), responsible for performing data analysis, building out and managing analytical products and responding to ongoing stakeholder and firm inquiries related to interpretive reporting topics. Specifically, the Securities and Holdings team provides services focusing on data quality assurance and analysis of Treasury International Capital (TIC) data received from U.S. financial institutions.

Hey there! I can see you're in a bit of a pickle, but don't worry, we've all been there. First off, kudos to you for being proactive and sending out those applications. It's a numbers game, so keep at it!

Now, about the FRBNY Regulatory Data Associate role. It might not be the traditional finance role you had in mind, but it could be a stepping stone. You'll be working with financial data, which is a crucial aspect of the finance industry. This could give you a unique perspective and valuable skills that could be beneficial in future roles. Plus, having FRBNY on your resume won't hurt!

As for the interview, here are a few tips:

  1. Research: Understand the role and the organization. What is the mission of the Data & Statistics Function? What does the Financial Analysis Services Team do? The more you know, the better you can tailor your responses.

  2. Practice: Anticipate common interview questions and practice your responses. Why do you want this role? How does your background make you a good fit?

  3. Be Honest: If asked about your career goals, be honest. You can express your interest in finance and how you believe this role can help you get there.

  4. Ask Questions: This shows you're interested and gives you a chance to see if this role is a good fit for you.

Remember, every experience is a learning opportunity. Even if this role isn't exactly what you want, it could lead to something better down the line. Keep your chin up and good luck!
