Feeling kind of lost?

Hi all,

Finished up the big IB SA this summer, got the return offer - super happy about it. Do not get me wrong, I am in a spot that a lot of people would die for, but I feel lost. Being a senior in college now just feels pointless, my classes are fine, but boring. I wake up everyday, do whatever I want, and go to bed late at night unless I have class. It all feels meaningless. I probably sound like a soft gen z kid, but I don't know anymore, life is weird. Growing up is weird, I do not want to move to NYC and live their full time. Working long hours is fine, until you feel your heart beating out of your chest in the office (happened more often that I can count during SA). It is not like I don't have meaning - I play a sport, have friends, and still work during school. I feel like once you grind for 1-2 years securing the SA and the return offer, senior year is just a blur. I feel like now I am actually living in the moment - I am not looking forward to anything but actually enjoying my day to day. I do not know why, but it is weird and I feel like I am not working towards anything, since I got what I wanted when I started recruiting.

Long rant, apologies. Any advice would be great - if someone could let me know how they spent/maximized their last year of college?

Thanks in advance.

Same here, return offer secured and just riding our senior year. Spending as much time as possible in the gym, writing CFA L1 this fall, and thinking of doing the GMAT this winter. Just things to stay occupied until next summer.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights and advice to help you maximize your last year of college and find meaning in your current situation:

  1. Embrace the Present:

    • Enjoy the freedom and flexibility you have now. These are the years where you still have a great deal of freedom and free time. Use it to the hilt.
    • Engage in activities that you enjoy, whether it's sports, hobbies, or spending time with friends. Make genuine friends with whom you can share these good times.
  2. Stay Hungry:

    • Keep the hunger and drive you had during your recruiting process. This mindset will help you stay motivated and focused on your long-term goals.
    • Consider setting new personal or professional goals to work towards, even if they are outside of your immediate career path.
  3. Explore New Interests:

    • Try new activities and experiences that you might not have had time for before. This could include hiking, brunch, breweries/vineyards, and attending pro-sports games.
    • Take advantage of the freedom to explore different interests and passions.
  4. Reflect and Plan:

    • Take some time to reflect on your experiences and what you want for your future. Look ahead to the next stages of your life and career, and start planning for them.
    • Think about your long-term vision and how your current actions align with that vision.
  5. Balance Work and Play:

    • While it's important to stay focused on your career, don't forget to enjoy your last year of college. Balance your work with fun and relaxation.
    • Make the most out of your last few years of minimal responsibility.
  6. Network and Build Relationships:

    • Continue to build and maintain relationships with your peers, professors, and professionals in your field. Networking can open up new opportunities and provide support as you transition into your career.

Remember, it's normal to feel a bit lost or uncertain during this transitional period. Embrace the journey and make the most of your remaining time in college.
