Finance grad, no experience, what to do?

I graduated middle of my class with a BS in Finance in '08 from a lowly state university in NC. I was never able to land an internship during undergrad, and didnt have an offer from any bank upon graduation. I originally intended on going to law school, but abandoned that idea once I learned of the miserable career prospects. I've been paying the bills with a measly consumer product phone sales job ever since.

Finance grads are a dime a dozen, and my resume is pathetically underwhelming, so I wont be working on Wall Street, but I dont want to do sales for Primerica, either. What kind of career in Finance can I realistically expect? What types of roles should I be pursuing?

I was basically in your exact same situation about 5 years ago. I ended up going to Tulane for a 1-yr Master in Finance program after realizing I was completely unqualified for any "real" finance job. That was a great option for me, and definitely something I would recommend doing. If not, you might want to consider commercial banking positions.

^^ I actually should have mentioned that I am considering getting a Masters in Fiance. I definitely wouldn't be opposed to it. Once I get a few years experience I plan to get an MBA as well.

What career path did you take after getting your masters?

^ Big thanks for the link. I'll check it out.

commercial banking isn't that bad, plus there is a lot of upwards mobility for someone really driven.

what good is a MSF going to do you without any experience?? personally i would rather take a bank teller job and work my way up.
