Finding a serious finance opportunity in Charlotte

Hi All. This is my first post on WSO. I'm living in Charlotte right now, and trying to get on a serious/ambitious path in finance. I plan on working in CLT for the next couple years then moving back to NYC where I have some low-mid level contacts at some of the banks (GS, MS, JPM), 1 or 2 in IB, through my parents. I have a relatively weak background. I got into UNC out of state, where I had planned on majoring in Business, but had a lot of health problems, and a really weak GPA first semester, and ended up with a BA in Management and Society (that's one major) and a History minor. My GPA was a 2.4, and my major GPA was only around a 2.8 or so, neither of which are on my resume. I worked at a tax accounting office near my house the summer before senior year, then went to work there full-time after graduating, mostly doing accounts receivables/payables, invoices, inputting bank statements, and some tax related work. March of '14 I moved to CLT and in August got a job at one of the banks here working on the loan trading team. The job is really easy, repetitive, and monotonous, and there's not really any room there for upward movement. The management is really weak, and there's a strong mutual dislike, and now they're going to throw all their bch work at me and try to overload me with work. It's pretty much known I'm going to quit, just a matter of when. I want to get a job doing higher level finance, either at one of the major banks, or one of the boutique banks around here. I know there's a lot of opportunities in the city for something more challenging and more in line with what I want to do. I would like to work in an area more market related, ie equities, bonds/FI, real estate, M/A, etc. Anything more challenging, where I can learn, gain experience, have guidance from strong leadership, etc. I'm trying to find another opportunity ASAP, b/c this current one is making me miserable. I don't really have any connections in the city, and now have two positions on my resume that lasted less than 1 full year. I want the next position to be a serious one so that I can stay there 1-2 years and have significant experience, both resume wise and corporate wise. I've been sending out apps, but haven't received much response. Does anyone have any advice, whether situation specific or just in general for the industry? Sorry, I know this post was long, but I don't have much experience yet, and would appreciate any and all help!
