Follow-up After Referral

I had an 1st year Analyst (right out of college) at a BB let me know that he referred me for their 2026 IB intern program. Dumb question– should I keep networking with the people there? or is networking mainly just to get that one referral?

Networking doesn't stop at the referral stage. Based on the most helpful WSO content, continuing to network after receiving a referral is highly recommended. It helps you build stronger relationships, gain insights into the firm's culture, and potentially secure mentorship. Additionally, staying in touch with the analyst who referred you and others at the firm shows genuine interest and enthusiasm, which can leave a positive impression.

However, keep it balanced—don't overdo it. Focus on meaningful conversations and updates rather than excessive outreach. For example, you can check in occasionally, ask thoughtful questions about their experiences, or share updates about your application process. This approach ensures you remain on their radar without appearing overly pushy.
