Fortune 50 vs boutique PE/IB
Hi guys, I'm a junior finance major at a top undergrad business school and I've accepted an offer to work at a fortune 50 company in their finance division. Most of the people I've talked to say it's a good job and that I should do the internship. I'm still currently looking for opportunities at banks and PE firms, but I believe all the big companies are done with their cycle. Is it worth going to a no name PE or IB and negging my current offer? I'm curious as to what you guys think, and how I should continue my path.
Thanks
Some "no name" IB and PE shops have great regional presence with competitive salaries and great work experience. If you can get into one of these, I would definitely pick it over the F50 cookie cutter finance job, if IB/PE is your thing. Although, some people like the structure and lower hours of an F50 finance role. Up to you.
It's a bit late at this stage, but if you can get a summer IB gig at a regional boutique at a major financial center, I'd take that over the F50 job. If you're looking to break into the industry FT after graduation, you'll need all the relevant experience you can get.
Does having the brand name of a well known fortune company beneficial if you have a low gpa? It should look good on my resume especially because it's my first corporate style internship. I don't want to fuck myself in the long run for a short term gain.
