Freshman Not Seeing Much Traction

I'm a freshman at an American target and, as the title says, I've been diligently applying to various financial institutions in Toronto, Canada and have yet to show anything for it. I have experience at various search funds, each of which assigned me distinct responsibilities, and I am currently interning at a boutique regional investment bank. Considering my experience (and desire to take a financial burden off my parents), I've been shooting for a paid internship in various finance positions — boutique banking, asset management, private equity, private wealth management, equity research, etc.

My current strategy consists of cold emailing either talent specialists or associates/VPs with my resume attached and applying through job portals where applicable. However, most recipients either don't respond, are currently not hiring interns, or will start hiring in March/April (of which they are uncertain).

Does anyone know any firms in Toronto that regularly hire interns or are currently hiring? What's a better way to go about finding a paid internship, assuming I've already exhausted familial connections?
