Freshman Summer Internship Advice

I am about to start my second semester at a target school (HYP) and a hoping to start getting relevant  experience in the industry. I am involved with some of my schools finance organizations, but all the opportunities getting passed on to us are for sophomores and juniors for the most part. I know getting an internship in IB after freshman year is extremely rare and not very necessary, but I figured I'd still try as it would be a good use of my summer.

I am planning on cold-emailing alumni at boutique IBs and smaller-scale firms such as prop trading shops. Is there any other ideas I should be pursuing? I have also applied for the freshman insight series hosted by BBs in case nothing pans out. I appreciate any advice you guys may have, thanks!
