ESCP bachelor isn't well respected - especially in France if you're French. You're better off doing GE after if you want to stay in France.

In London its less of an issue but still ESCP masters > bachelors for the big banks.

Nah its better to do a MiF in London after. The only bachelor students getting SAs now are those who got top springs, or go to lse/oxbridge...

Degree inflation is real asf. Tough to get anything otherwise

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some insights and advice regarding your chances for securing 1st round interviews at top finance institutions like Lazard, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, and Evercore as an incoming 2nd-year student at ESCP:

1. Networking is Key

  • Networking plays a critical role in securing interviews. Aim to establish meaningful connections with bankers at these firms. While shallow connections can help, deeper relationships (e.g., with VPs or higher) significantly increase your chances of getting your resume pushed through.
  • Use LinkedIn and your school’s alumni database to identify ESCP alumni working at these banks. Reach out for informational calls and express genuine interest in their roles and the firm.

2. Your Internship Experience

  • Having completed an internship after your first year is a strong signal of your commitment to finance. Highlight the skills and achievements from this experience on your CV. Banks value candidates who demonstrate early exposure to the industry.

3. Targeted Preparation

  • Treat networking calls as mini-interviews. Bankers may test your technical knowledge during these conversations, so be prepared to discuss technicals, your internship experience, and your interest in their specific group.
  • Prepare thoroughly for technical and behavioral questions. Remember, interviews are a mix of preparation and luck, but preparation is the part you can control.

4. School and GPA

  • ESCP is a strong school, but it’s not always considered a top target for all banks in London or Paris. This means you may face an uphill battle compared to candidates from top targets. However, a high GPA and strong networking can help bridge this gap.

5. Volume and Persistence

  • Apply broadly and don’t limit yourself to just the top-tier banks. Include mid-tier and boutique firms in your applications to maximize your chances.
  • Rejections are part of the process. Stay optimistic and keep pushing through. Many candidates face multiple rejections before landing an offer.

6. Resume and Application

  • Ensure your CV is polished and tailored to each bank. Use templates and advice from resources like Mergers and Inquisitions to craft a standout resume.
  • Highlight leadership roles, extracurricular activities, and any finance-related coursework or certifications.

7. Timeline

  • Start preparing and networking as early as possible. Many banks begin their recruitment processes months in advance, so being proactive is crucial.

Final Thoughts:

Your chances depend on a combination of factors: networking, preparation, and persistence. While ESCP may not be a top target, your internship experience and proactive approach can set you apart. Focus on building strong connections, refining your technical skills, and applying strategically to increase your odds.

Can't see your CV for some reason, but read that you did a restructuring internship before plus have ESCP.

If your internship was at a known firm you can target more prestigious firms easily. London is easier than Paris to break in. In Paris landing top roles during bachelors is unheard of.

Apply for Central & Eastern Europe coverage roles in London/Paris and you're golden. There's some out for Jeffries if I remember correctly. Escp + restructuring is a great background, and your languages help a lot.

CV wise I'd remove the gpa. Only add it if it's above 3.7. Also there's too much detail in education section. Relevant courses and grade if top tier is enough.

The bullets under your internships should start with action verbs not "built, supported..". Also some bullets are super long, it reads like a paragraph. I'd cut it to 1 line each, 2 max.
