High School Student: Looking to set myself up for success

Hello,

I'm a 16 year old who is an incoming junior in High School. Business and finance are both passions of mine, and I enjoy spending some of my free time reading and learning more, simply in an attempt to learn more about the field. At this point, I'm fairly certain that this is the career path I would like to go down, and while I'm not entirely sure where specifically I will land out of college with respect to the job scene, (IB, Corporate, etc.), I think a finance/business major is something that I'd pursue. From the little I do know, it seems that one critical step would be getting into a good/target school. This seems to be the general consensus everywhere, so I am making sure to focus on my schoolwork and extracurriculars so that I can increase my chances of getting into one of these prestigious schools. However, with the end of the school year, I've found myself with a lot of time on my hands, and I would really like to best utilize it. I see peers shadowing doctors, and doing other work with professionals, and I feel like I should do the same, but I don't know who to approach. Honestly, even if I were just grabbing coffee and filing papers all day, I'd be fine with it, as long as I'd have the opportunity to learn more about business and finance alongside of those tasks. Should I be e-mailing local businesses and boutique banks (there are actually a few near me), or should I just focus on my schoolwork and read and gain more knowledge about business, finance, financial modeling and other skills. I have no idea what to do at all, so any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Get good school, network freshman year for internship, get sophomore internship, exploit connections you make over those two years for junior year SA, and then get that FT. Focus on your first step, internships in high school don’t count. Maybe caddie at a golf club, you can meet some powerful folks doing that
