How did you find a job in another city?
How many of you have been able to find a job in another city or region without any ties upfront like family? Can't quite figure out what's a good reason other than saying for the job opportunity itself, if I even get interviewed.
I'm looking to leave my city, been here a while and pretty fed up with how overpriced everything is. I'm in one of the top 5 most expensive US metros for reference, so I'm looking for something "reasonable" in terms of cost of living.

In all seriousness though, other than challenges with the interviewing process (which can easily be remedied if a firm sees you as a strong candidate), I don't see how being from another city would be an issue? Especially if you're looking to move from a bigger to a "smaller" city, the reverse would usually be more difficult.
In terms of networking, were you making trips out to your targeted city and then setting up in-person meetings, or did you mainly network through phone/email. Curious to know the difficulty in achieving this.
I think it goes without saying that face to face meetings are much more productive and goes a longer way in building relationships. So if you can afford to make networking trips, only do so once you've built at least a few connections through initial phone conversations.
That being said, in my case, when I was doing the bulk of my networking, I was a broke student so really couldn't afford to travel to other cities. So I mainly stuck to reaching out to inaccessible people via email/Linkedin and arranging phone calls. You'd be surprised how receptive people are and at the end of the day, its a numbers game. Just nail your story, show curiosity and be genuine. This site has some great networking guides and discussions so I won't drag on too much.
