How do I address this with HR? Need help big time.

Long time poster but created a dummy account for this.

So simply put recently graduated senior and I got a job offer for an big name IB. I moved to the US when I was 12 with my parents. Immigration lawyers handled everything correctly or so we thought. After I got the offer, I decided to run e-verify on myself and wasn't verified. I decided to call DHS, turns out because I was 12 when our visas were approved and we moved here, DHS couldn't issue me work authorization because I wasn't of legal working age and the law firm was suppose to request work authorization when I turned 16. They forgot to and no one reminded my parents, the fact that I spent all of my summers working in Europe (home) didn't help because I never needed US work authorization until now.

I immediately called our lawyers (top immigration firm in the nation) and they apologized and agreed to handle this issue for free. Soon after we submitted all the paperwork and sent it off to DHS. Fast-forward a few weeks and nothing from DHS and so we called DHS, they said they had no idea when they will get around to my application and nothing could be done to speed it up, typical bureaucracy. Thankfully dad is good friends with a senior staffer for a pretty important US congressman (think house leadership). Congressman's office sent an inquiry on Monday and got a response Thursday telling them based on current case load, I should expect a decision by X date which happens to be two weeks before my first day but four weeks after when background checks are suppose to begin (checks are suppose to begin two-three week). They sent a follow up asking them if DHS can speed it up and since today is the 4th, a response likely wont come until mid next week.

How should I address this with HR? I know in the original application, they ask about authorization to work, and I in good faith marked yes. Would this typically be an issue that could result in them rescinding the offer before the checks process?

Contact the HR people, tell them the same story as above. Very highly unlikely they will rescind. This is just paperwork/process for them which doesn't even involve effort on their part (ie they just wait for you to confirm DHS has issued work verification), so they just won't care.

Don't bother telling them about all the preftige stuff ie who your daddy knows, how important the law firm is, how you think this is the law firm's fault rather than your fuck up. No one cares about that stuff, except to the extent it sounds like preftige whining which only creates a negative reaction (like my reaction right here when I read that crap).

Those who can, do. Those who can't, post threads about how to do it on WSO.

Double edged sword BC if say nothing then you're fucked and if you do you might be fucked.

High chance of getting rescinded BC you unknowingly lied on your app, and BB programs are very structured so prepare yourself for it.

Don't listen to this idiot! I wouldn't bring it up unless they do. I would just submit my background check and see what happens.

I thought background checks are just for criminal records/education verification? I was always asked to bring passport etc the first day so they can verify employment eligibility.
