how do i make the most out of a networking call?

i feel like every time i have a networking call, that came from a cold email, the convo flows great, not too much about work and has good lighthearted conversation. theyre always happy to put me in touch with someone else and give advice, and always offer that i can reach out again. but it feels like i never get anywhere concrete. i havent gotten an interview and im not sure how much i wanna push the line between pushy/persistent and more respectful. how do i even ask to be moved forward in the recruitment process?
