How is Unpaid Leave treated in a Background Check?

So I've been taking unpaid leave at my current workplace for the past 4-5 months while looking for a new job.

On my applications/resume - I've been listing my current employment as "Ongoing".

When this pops up in a background check, would the background checking service (First Advantage) pick up on the fact that I haven't worked?

A friend of mine worked at a background check company, and they usually call your employer/past-employer to confirm tenure. Background check companies do not check with payroll.
