How likely to obtain a Quant position at a IB or HF

Dear Readers, This is my first post on this forum and I would like to know how likely is it to get a Quant position in both USA and the UK. In order to help those who may reply to this the below description best describes me.

I have a first class honours undergraduate degee in mathematics not from a top uni, I will have completed a MSc Financial Mathematics in 2013 from a top university in the UK. I have no work experience in the finance sector.

Simply put, I want to know if I were to study MSc Financial Mathematics at University College London, what is the likelyhood of someone wanting to take me on as a Quant?

I would also like to point out that there aren't many top universities that run the MSc Financial Mathematics course and that the ones that do, have small class sizes.

I would like the as much input from anyone, ie graduates from Masters courses who have gone on to a quant position, or people whom work in HR, and of course Quants and how you secured your position. I'd like to thank you for your time and look forward to the replies, if any ^_^

Preface: I'm not a quant, nor from an IB.

From what I hear/read, true quant analyst positions are VERY competitive. Most quant roles are filled by PhD's. Even though you'd be armed with an MFE, it will still be an uphill battle. The OP is confusing in that you say, "I will have completed..." and "if I were to study..." A lot of MFE's find jobs in risk management. Also, google "quantnet" for plenty of quality info on MFE programs and career prospects. Just my two cents.

I'll do what I can to help ya'll. But, the game's out there, and it's play or get played.

MFE and MSc in Fin. Math are for the most part competing for the same jobs, that and there are quite a few top schools that offer programs in one of the two areas (Stanford, NYU, Princeton, Colombia, etc...)

It's going to be a challenge because even though the number of universities offering such programs are low, the number of positions are just as low.
