How long after applying do you follow up?
Submitted an application and have contacts in the firm. I followed up directly after submitting it and received a response that they just opened the role and aren't deep into the hiring just yet. It's been a over a week. When is it ok to reach out again and check in?
At what point do you know if they just aren't interested and you're not a candidate?
Edit: they reposted the job add, it has a different jobID number, but the same role. Now there are 2 postings. Is this bad.
There’s no way to know for sure what they’re doing. Some places collect resume for a minimum of a month before they start interviews. Others will start interviewing as soon as they receive a resume they like.
Don’t get too hung up on one job. Wait 2-3 more weeks and let them know you’re still interested. In the meantime, keep reaching out to other shops.
Bump, in the application trenches as well. Trying to make a transition into capital markets as an analyst.
Agreed with @JSmithRE2010 - wait like 1.5 weeks and reach out. Don't want to seem like you are suffocating them.
Apply to the new posting too and reach out. Don't go more than 2 weeks without reaching out unless they tell you not to.
I should apply to the new posting too?
I reached out to another guy in the firm and said I’d like to learn more and that I recently applied.
Apparently it was a bad move. He’s an associate. My other contacts are director levels.
Others here on the forum all but said I fuc$ed up in doing so. What are your thoughts? Shall I still email the original guys in a week to check the status?
I was just trying to get as many guys in the group in my circle and figured maybe this new prospect could offer some interview tips should I be blessed with one.
Also, what’s the power of networking? The fact they’re replying is good? I’m sure another “more qualified candidate” may apply, but if I can sell them and push them do I have a shot?
This is one of those things where advice is exactly that advice. No one on this board is you or knows exactly what your relationship is with these people. These are mostly just rules of thumb. You can't sit there and freak out about an email that you sent or didn't send based on arbitrary recommendations from someone on a forum.
Not sure what level the role is that you are applying for but in terms of learning what the day to day would be like, you'll probably get a better sense of that from the associate so I wouldn't downplay the value to talking to him/her

Check in every two-three weeks at the most. These positions can be open for a long time before they hire anyone, real estate moves really slow.
