How long are job postings up for IB?
Some job postings say Posting End Date, does that mean applications are no longer accepted after the date even though the posting is still on their website? And then it would mean, you only have 4 days to apply for it? Should I still try applying after the end date?
If not specified, how long do companies accept applications for after the posting?
It depends. If this is OCR, usually firms dont look at it until the "end date" then interview the batch of candidates they like from your school all at once in a day. If this is posted on a company website I would apply as soon as possible, often times companies just interview candidates as they come in and if they dont like them, they just move on to the next and jobs stay open for a while. I just accepted an offer this week that was on a company website posted since early February.
Thanks for sharing! How long did you wait for the interview?
I applied in March, interviewed in early June. This is atypical.
Our OCR was done on a rolling basis until the deadline for a few companies and there was a structured resume drop date for the remainder of firms. Why are you waiting at all? If this is OCR past the due date reach out to your recruiter and have a good explanation.
So it really depends on the firm? I didn't see the job posting until couple weeks after the posting date, which is why I wonder if I should still apply. It was posted on the company website so I am not sure who the recruiter is and who I can contact.
Why not just apply and try to find a contact while you wait? The website is largely a last resort for banks anyway, but I ended up at one of my super days that way when I was going through recruiting. In the end if you don't apply now then you may either wait around and miss the process or apply to a finished one. Worst case scenario is still the same.
That's true. I am worried about the company keeping records of your application. If they have another job opening later and I would like to apply, would it look bad if they see I've applied before (potentially way past the deadline)?
I don't think so, but I've never applied multiple times. From my experience, usually if you are borderline but don't make the cut then they will keep your resume on file. If your application gets tossed altogether then you can still get in by sending it directly to the group / primary recruiter (by far the best way, anyway). HR typically screens online applications and their opinions don't hold a lot of weight in most cases. I think the risk of waiting far outweighs the risk of applying more than once.
