How to get a guaranteed internship

Throughout high school, college, and now grad school - I've had a hard time scoring an internship. Recently, Pharrell Williams gave a commencement speech to a group of graduating seniors in which he offered all of them an internship for the summer after they complete their freshman year of college.

“So let me be clear ... every member of the 2019 graduating class is guaranteed an internship waiting for them — you — next summer,” Williams told the grads.

The Promise Academy’s administration partnered with the producer to create an internship program that would give these students the connections necessary to succeed within their respective fields, according to CEO Anne Williams-Isom.

What would you have done if you were given an opportunity like that? Any thoughts on his generosity? Do you have any advice for grabbing an internship?

Nothing is guarunteed in finance. The best strategy is to reach out to as many firms as possible, and if you can't get an internship with a large firm, then go for a smaller one,l even a family office. Honestly, at a smaller firm/family office, you will be doing more meaningful work (aka less grunt work) than you would be if you were at GS or MS for example.
