Hey guys,
I've been at my consulting firm (more like staff-aug) for nearly three years now and I honestly hate it. I've been applying and got some interviews, but didn't walk away with any offers. I got another rejection email yesterday at a firm that I thought I had and it really broke me down. The work I currently do is utterly boring. I've mainly been focusing on internal operational roles/ strategy for start-ups, tech companies, media companies. I'm barely getting interviews, I've had dozens of people look at my resume and they say its good. So I don't what to do. I feel miserable and I'm worthless. I'm happy with the fact I'm employed, but I feel like I'm becoming complacent here. I've had people who started after me get promoted and I'm still stuck in the same position for three years.
Can anyone here offer to take a look at my resume?
Your post gives off a negative feel, I imagine in person its the same. Get in the gym, get some interests outside of work & get passionate about something. It will change your life & I guarantee you will find a job that will give you some purpose.

You are right. I am being negative. Been trying to keep my head-up for a while. but every now and then I feel like shit. I will take a look at the Podcast. I do need to hit the gym, but I tore a ligament and it has't healed yet, so I haven't been able to blow off steam. I'm just so frustrated. I needed to vent.

I have posted this in similar ways before, but you need to adjust your attitude. I mean that in the most friendly and professional way possible. I started my career off at a "no-name" IB boutique and hated it. The clients were extremely unsophisticated, the dealflow was poor, I made $60k all-in, and my associate was a complete brown-noser and loved throwing me under the bus. It was terrible, and I know how you feel.
I would first take a deep breath. Maybe take a Friday off and take a three-day weekend trip somewhere. Once you've relaxed and calmed down a bit, put together an action and evaluation plan. Come up with some of your strengths and weaknesses and where you want your career headed. You're not sharing this with you chicks at a bar, so be honest with yourself.
Then, put that action plan into play. What are you trying to accomplish? Where do you want to end up? Start reaching out to alumni and any connections you've made. You would be surprised how many people have been in your shoes and have no problem helping you. Take a look at your resume. Maybe it is good, maybe it's not (I would seriously consider the WSO Resume Review service). Maybe your resume is great, but your experience does not tie-in well with whatever role you are seeking. It happens, and maybe you need to adjust your expectations. Again, it happens.

Thank you for this. I have vacation days that need to be utilized before year-end and I will be using that time to revamp my resume and make an action plan for next year. I'm not looking for ibanking, P.E or buyside. I would love to do Corp Development, but I have no ibanking experience. I'm more interested in operational roles, sales operations, things that utilize B.I tools.
