How to not be cringe when networking

I’m interning BO @ BB NYC. I’m pretty successful with cold messaging people on linkedin and have met with a few people for dinner. But I can imagine how cringe it can look to the other person when they’re getting asked by a rando kid on linkedin.

To those who get asked for coffee chats/dinners; what’s the best way to ask without coming across as some naive sweaty college kid that just cares about a referral and nothing else?

Just don’t say “too bad we couldn’t have gotten a reservation at Dorsia’s.”
