How to proceed next?
Hi, I am from a target school, although not for S&T at JPM. I've been speaking with an S&T guy at JPM through emails though (he is also an alumnus). We've talked about my some of my interests in learning about trading, and he's asked me to send him my resume. Now the problem is that I have a rather low GPA (3.24).
What's the best way to proceed and make the most out of this situation?
Send it and hope for a direct, honest opinion. Spin the low gpa with a good explanation for the """poor""" gpa.
should I be doing this preemptively when I send him my resume? or if he asks? I'm worried that he'll just flat out stop responding when he sees this.
how big of a deal is the gpa in the context of ur resume - ie is ur work experience amazing? are u at an ivy target or just a target? is ur major gpa higher and is ur major "relevant?"
No to most of the above. The only thing I have going for me is that I'm doing a dual-major in financial math and econ at a target and I've picked up a bit of knowledge about trading from reading. And 99th percentile SAT scores
you are at a target where JPM S+T doesnt recruit? are u sure its a target?
i hate to be the one to say it but i dont know if the major is really "going for you." big secret: no one actually cares what u majored in - unless we are talking ORFE at Princeton. yes, they will put on a stone face when the 3.86 journalism major walks in but when they have the same trading knowledge as you do becuz they can also read books...u get my drift.
good going on the SAT scores - i hope those are bolded...
im not sure if i would go to any extra lengths to mention or explain (essentially highlight) the gpa unless u were hospitalized for a semester, death in the family, or something drastic. if the gpa is the product of one year or one semester thats one thing - if its consistent thru out thats another animal. And who knows what kind of GPA he had. Odds are, xplanation or not, if he wants to stop responding becuz of something on ur resume, he is going to stop responding.
