How to reach back out to old networking contact

I'm a current sophomore looking for internships for 2025, and a while back (April/May) I had a general networking call with an alum at a firm. I asked about internships and he mentioned that he could help me out, but at the time it was too early and I should check back in closer to the fall.  I don't think they have a concrete application process.

Now that the time is closer, how should I manage this? Should I email back asking about internships directly? Or set up another call? I don't know exactly what I'd talk to him about though because it was already a pretty standard networking call. I just know he could help me out and he said he'd be willing to.
