How was your internship experience at each bank?

As most summer analysts wrap up internships I wanted to make a thread to get an idea of how everyone’s experience was at their banks. Our experience as interns can be strong indicators of what culture is like at different banks and this can hopefully also be a resource for people interested in recruiting. Here’s some potential questions:

  • Name of bank, group type (product/coverage)

  • How was your training? Did you receive group-specific training?

  • What was the culture like at your group? What was the culture like at other groups, or the bank as a whole?

  • Do you feel as though your internship provided a good representation of the work you will be doing as an analyst?

  • What is your general impression of the other interns hired by your bank?

  • How busy were you? Average hours worked per week?

  • What perks did you get as an intern?

  • Would you consider recruiting FT at a different group or bank? Which ones?

  • Are you expecting to receive a return offer? If so, why are/aren’t you deciding to return full time?

  • Rate overall experience: A/B/C etc

I’ll go first with my experience interning at Barclays:

Training: got training by Wall Street prep, also received group specific training

Culture: people were extremely helpful and welcoming, enjoyed working with coworkers at all levels

Work: got staffed on a live deal + plenty of pitches and although the work was boring, it never felt pointless

WLB: Ranged from 60-80hrs

Perks: protected saturdays + $30 meal and Ubers after 8. Three mandatory days in office a week

Expecting to receive an offer and will likely accept. Am happy with my group and will not re-recruit, I learned a lot and just really the analysts and associates. Plus my group seems to be doing well and getting M&A exposure from coverage is great. Overall: A

Adding for Continental European Office:

Training:No formal training, but group-specific and WSPrep docs available for self-use

Culture: Extremely good, very helpful people across all levels and groups. Local Head of IB even took time take a coffee with me during week 1

Work: was on 2 live deals, plenty of pitches and other situations

WLB: 80-100

Perks: No marketing on weekends, protected saturdays. €30 dinner and uber after 8. 3 mandatory days in office

Have accepted and returned since. Highly recommend - A

Goldman Sachs

Classic IBD (TMT/FIG/HC/NR/CRG)

Training: Training the Street, pretty basic stuff but also group specific training held by analysts

Culture: People were very friendly and were willing to take the time to help you learn, enjoyed working with everyone

Work: Really interesting stuff both in coverage and in M&A, given as much responsibility as you can handle

WLB: Mostly dependent on what deals you were staffed on, some interns left at 8-10pm everyday while others were 3am-4am consistently. Average 80 - 90 hrs.

Will most likely accept my FT offer, really happy with my groups culture and the people were great. Overall: A

What are the perks like? E.g. meal stipends and ubers? Also, have you heard anything about the INDUS group culture? Thank you in advance!

Perks: $30 for dinner after 6pm and another $30 meal after 11pm, free uber home if you stay past 9pm. Gym is pretty nice in the building and is $50/month. Free coffee throughout the day.

Ind from what I know has a pretty rough culture. Not sure exactly as I dont have first hand experience but I think they are more professional and uptight but just what I've heard.

JPM Coverage NY

Training: Financial Edge and group specific training

Culture: Very nice people, willing to teach SAs, lots of team bonding events

Work: A couple live deals and a couple pitches

WLB: Would leave anytime from 10pm-3am so really varied

Perks: $30 dinners and $30 2nd dinners/late night snack after 10, Ubers after 8, free meals and Ubers all weekend basically

Overall: Great experience, didn't get crushed too badly but some others in my group did. Accepted FT offer.

Point72 Academy - NYC

Training: Wall Street Prep (must self-learn all the content and be done the courses before the internship starts)

Culture: everyone is very intelligent + lots of quirky/interesting personalities

Work: TONS of experience in eight weeks (pod rotation + pitches + industry ramps + more)

WLB: generally ranged from 70-100 hrs (extremely intense holy fuck)

Perks: $30 meals, ubers after 9

Received a return and have already accepted cause fuck it
