I need help with a WS career.
I'm 17 and from the UK. I aspire to work on Wall Street but I don't know how to get there or what to do. Do i study in the UK or US and what do I study (Im not very mathematical and have not done a Maths A level). Could anyone suggest my path and also what job I could do, I just want to work on WS, earn a lot of money(ha - like anyone) and do someting that I would enjoy and isn;t mathematical. Any suggestions? Maths is essential. Do a ton of mathematical modules at uni and make sure you have a damn good reason why you didn't do it at A level. Hate to break it to you but without Maths you won't work in finance (none of what you do is actually complicated unless your in complex derivatives but you still need to show you CAN do it).
There's this place called London right next to you... perhaps you've heard of it?
It's essentially impossible to get into the US as a first-year analyst from another country without having some residence or a green card first.
You are in London - work on getting into Uxbridge/LSE/Imperial and you are sorted to work in LONDON.
You can move to NY once you've worked in London for a few years, very easy move to make. Few of my friends have done it, my old neighbour was just asked to move there to head the FX team at his bank. And if you really just want to earn the big bucks, I'd go to (insert highly unstable country) working in (insert dubious job), no need to work if money is what you are all after.
I made my choice early on - left the US to go study in London as I wanted to work in London.
fyi, I actually studied in the UK and went to the US. It happens all the time. The difference of course is going to a name-brand uni.
