IB Summer Analyst from Middle Office Internship

Currently doing 6 month internship in trade support at a good bank in New York (ends Dec 2023) and I am shooting to get a 2025 summer analyst role (graduating 2026). I have a preference for IB over S&T although S&T may be easier to break into because of the proximity of my current role. I have some questions about how I should go about this. Go to a solid school but non target, non diverse, good resume I think.

1) How frequently should I reach out to people in IB (or S&T) to talk?

2) should I try to talk to the same people more than once

3) Will it be a bad look/seen as a f u to middle office if I'm emailing bankers asking to chat?

4) How do I leverage the relationships I build into getting an interview once im back at school and applying in 2024?

5) is it worth talking to anyone from HR?

6) Should I reach out to ppl at other banks or invest as much energy to the one I'm at?

The bank I interned at in London encouraged interns to network across the entire bank. After all, you are an intern and are willing/trying to learn about various parts of the bank. You should not think lower of yourself because you are in the support role. Rather when taking to people say that you went into this role because you were interested in X,Y,Z aspect or technology related to it but now you learnt you like trading or IB more because of X,Y,Z reason.

Imo, best bet would be to ask somebody close to you to introduce you or you could reach out to people who’ve got a reputation for being helpful :)).

Moreover, my bank allowed people who got offers to reject them and interview (final round) for another internship. It would be worth asking HR if this is a possibility.
