I'm a Failure
I just failed out of medical school. I went to an osteopathic school, and I heavily utilized their grade replacement policy (retake grades). So, I have like 6 transcripts including community colleges and my UG. I've never worked a day in my life since I have been continuously in school.
In undergrad, I did major in business admin, but it was at a no-name school that basically has no career center. I don't even know where to start. Ideally, I'd like to go into healthcare consulting but I'm not even sure that's an option. Where and how do I get my foot into any door, so that I can build myself back up. I need any advice I can get since I'm in by far the worst phase of my life. Thanks.
Hi shiva910, whoops, looks like nobody chimed in here.... maybe one of these discussions below is relevant:
If those topics were completely useless, don't blame me, blame my programmers...
Why do you want to go into healthcare consulting? Is it something you're genuinely interested in?
Why did you fail out of med school? Lack of interest? Extraneous circumstances?
Try to network with people, and figure out a way to explain these "failures." I've met with a few alumni from my school in the area that are in healthcare consulting, and they've all been very open to taking an hour to speak with me over coffee. Set up mentor meetings and ask for direction. You will definitely have to explain your path to this point, and why you chose healthcare consulting in the first place. Don't get down on yourself for the past, just look forward at the best way to maximize your potential (as cliche as that sounds, its true). Best of luck.
First of all YOU are not a failure. You failed at medical school. That’s all.
I know it’s tough owning up to failure, but a mentor of mine once said to me: “This is for now, not forever.” He was right.
Only two options now: Allow this to forever define how you think about yourself or spend a short time learning from this season of your life and move forward. Your choice.
TBH I don’t think you are ready to start networking because you aren’t clear on what you are trying to accomplish by getting meetings.
Get clarity on where you want to go next and most importantly why you are moving in that direction.
Most of us have some bad moves on our resumes. I know I do. Don’t let that stop you.
I would guess this is like a divorce or losing a loved one in the rankings of traumatic events. With that being said, you will feel better and this isnt the end of the world.
It's really hard to get into medical school in the first place, you're miles ahead of 99% of the population. Don't give up now.
Seriously it is haha i have friends from college applying to med school now (smart kids, great grades, great mcats) and they're more focused on their contingency plan if they don't get in rather than getting in to the school at all. Its nuts how much worse it seems than bschool.
Thank you all very much for the kind support. I'm planning on entering the corporate world as a consultant, and I'm applying for entry-level positions to have build a foundation. Any suggestions or helpful advice?
