yeah thats what I thought at first, but it seems like banks can see arrest records with the FBI background check that they use. My main concern is getting an offer which gets rescinded because I wouldn't be able to get licensed by FINRA. I guess this discussion is academic until I get an offer, but I'm thinking about whether I should invest much more time in trying for banking.

I don't qualify for youthful offender status so I think it would still show up. And yeah I've been trying to reach out to smaller banks if thats what you mean. I might be able to get past the bank's background check, but wouldn't I still need to get licensed by FINRA no matter what? Or do smaller banks not require analysts to get their licenses?

Still, I doubt a dismissed petit larceny charge would stop you from getting licensed. Hell, FINRA even lets convicted felons get licensed 10 years out: "Based upon the expanded definition of "disqualification," the list of disqualifying events are as follows...certain misdemeanor and all felony criminal convictions for a period of ten years from the date of conviction."

Of course, I'd suggest sidestepping all this bullshit and starting out at a boutique but that's just me. While people sent in transcripts as first year analysts all I had to do was email a cell phone picture of my diploma to HR.

Hey guys- I managed to get a couple banking offers so this question isn't really hypothetical anymore. Neither of the banks I got offers at is a commercial bank so I don't think the FDIC regulations should play a part in this. I think its just whether or not the banks want to take someone with this on their record. Should I ask the HR of my first choice straight up whether this is gonna be a problem before I sign the offer? Any insight on how to handle this would be greatly appreciated.

Were you convicted of it or just charged? It sounds like charged but later dropped, so if the question on your app or whatever says "have you ever been convicted of..." you put no. I wouldn't outright lie if asked 'were you ever charged' but I also wouldn't offer any extra unneeded info.

This to all my hatin' folks seeing me getting guac right now..

yeah wasn't convicted so Im good for that question but Im probably gonna have to check yes if they ask if I was arrested or charged. The main thing I'm wrestling with right now though is whether I just call up my top choice and let them know the situation before I sign the offer. That way I could potentially still try to sign the other offer on the table if they say my background is a no go, but it could screw me over with my top choice. words of wisdom anybody?
