Number one priority should be ensuring you’re using consistent font and size. Appropriately use bold and italics to denote categories, title rows, etc. Color shouldn’t be a priority unless you have a lot of extra time and you want to do it

There is a certain level of formatting clarity you need to get the numbers right (green, blue and black colored accordingly for example), you need a clear logic section system. (For LBOs, txn. Info and sources / uses at the top, then closing BS, IS/assumptions, CF, Debt Sweep, returns) but beyond that it doesn’t need to look like a client copy polish no.

Best way to know what formatting is necessary is to always practice building from a blank excel rather than using course/company templates. You may be given a template for the exam but at a certain point if you are used to a blank excel it would make it super easy
