"Informal" work experience on resume?

I've been helping a relative in some of the projects at the firm he works for (listed financial services company) and believe I've learned some valuable things there.

Furthermore, I was later referred to one of the firm's clients to help them with some of the researches/analyses. However, the fund is in the early stages so I received no "direct" compensations and the fund is not officially registered yet.

I've learned a lot from these experiences and was wondering if, and how, I should put it on my resume? Can I just write the name of the company, put a generic title/role, and describe what I did to help in those projects? What about the "startup"? My tasks were related to finance, so I feel like it would be extremely valuable for my resume.

Here are some (I think) important points to note: My relative is a manager at the firm and willing to act as my referee. I do not have much work experience (none that is directly related to finance) to put on my resume other than that.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
