International student interested in ib
Hello I am an international student currently in a non target (suny Binghamton). Is it impossible for me to break into investment banking? If not, what can I do to increase my chances and which banks should I target keeping in mind H1B visa sponsorship?
There are threads on WSO highlighting sponsoring employers, use the search function and the list is there.
Also, coming from a non-target and without any top tier internships... I would look for a sponsor and a visa rather than for IB. anything that works is what's needed.
Given the market environment and hiring landscape, it's not going to be easy.
if you think you can do it and have the credentials to make you stand out (GPA, internships, and/or personality, etc) from your school, your visa status should not matter in getting the internship. Yes, less firms are sponsoring now, but the ones that do don't really discriminate based on visa status. Not saying it is going to be easy, but it is possible from my personal experience and a ton of my friends, albeit not non-target
If you're planning on recruiting IB, I would realistically tell you to aim for MMs that sponsor (e.g. Cowen, Blair, DC, Nomura, etc..) rather than BB/EBs, but cast a wide net because you don't know what's going to happen.
If Harper Stern could make it from SUNY Binghamton, then anyone can.
