Interview Consistency
Alright, I had a first round interview for S&T for a foreign bank. The interviewer asked: Sales or Trading, Fixed Income or Equities. I do have a preference, but it's not a big deal for me. Seeing how people always say, "pick one and stick with it", I said "I prefer trading because blah blah blah, fixed income because blah blah blah"
Then he said.. wait a second, you know chinese! I think you'll be a perfect fit for our asian equities sales desk.
Now I have an interview scheduled for that Asian Equities Sales desk. If my second round interviewer ask me, sales or trading, fixed income or equities, it would seem very odd for me to say trading/fixed income. On the other hand, it would also be odd if I pull a 180 degree switch and say sales/equities (what if the first round interviewer took notes and passed it on?". How should I approach this question?
I don't see why they would ask you that if you're interviewing at an equities desk. I would think they would take your interest in equities as given.
