Interview dress up help

Hi

I have an interview with Bloomberg in NYC next week. I have been reading on the web on what to wear for the interview and there are a whole bunch of (sometimes contradicting) ideas. So I appreciate your help with this.

I am thinking of wearing the following:

From my black suit , I'll wear the pants (not the jacket though) A bright shirt (white or similar) A tie A sweater vest A formal black winter jacket (longer than suit jacket)

My questions:

1- Is sweater vest too casual?

2- I'll be taking off the jacket (it's heavy and uncomfortable to sit with) . Will I be too informal? Should I forget about the winter jacket, wear the suit jacket and have it on during the interview?

Thanks.

You should be wearing a normal full suit, white shirt and tie. BBG is the epitome of formal business. Never take your suit jacket off during an interview. Make sure your shirt is buttoned all the way up and keep your tie knotted perfectly and tight. Shave in the AM and shave close. You will be doing this everyday if you land the job.

I would not select that formal suit jacket thing you talk about above. Wear a normal suit and an overcoat which can be removed, obviously. They will ask if you'd like to hang your coat and scarf.

You should wear a full suit. If you are worried that it's cold out - it is, wear a jacket over your suit (topcoat). Black suit is fine for this interview - just make sure to invest in some dark navys and greys once you get the job though :)

YES, sweater vest is too casual for an interview. YES, take off your jacket/topcoat, keep the suit jacket on.

Good Luck!

There are things you cannot control during an interview: the questions you are asked, the mood of your interviewer, travel delays, the weather, and a thousand other random variables. The one and only thing you can control and should not under any circumstances fuck up is what you wear to an interview. An interviewer should meet you for the first time and think nothing special of your attire.

Keep it classy, nothing too bold or too bright.

If you only have a winter coat, just go in wearing your suit jacket. It's not that cold out yet, and winter coat (ski coat style) is short, then the suitjacket will billow out underneath it, looking like a skirt, bad look. Don't forget black shoes (black socks), and a black belt.
