Investment Banking Intern . Help!

I am thinking about taking an internship in the investment banking sector and have been asked, would you rather be an Analyst or Sales?

My two main questions:

1.) Ultimately, which has the potential to make more money and move up the "ladder" quicker? Analyst or Sales?

2.) Which of those two would you choose as a business student trying to enter the investment banking sector and make it very successful?

Thank you so much!!

Da fuck?

Under my tutelage, you will grow from boys to men. From men into gladiators. And from gladiators into SWANSONS.

  1. Search bar. Also Mergers & Inquisitions. Talk to alums too.

  2. As you do the above, you'll start to notice that S&T and IBD are two very different animals that attract almost entirely different sets of people. It'll probably become apparent which one is for you. Actually, neither might, there are lots of finance jobs that are not IBD nor S&T. Asset management, equity research, hedge funds, private equity, private banking, commercial/corporate banking, middle office, back office, corporate law, compliance/regulatory, etc.

  3. In finance it often is about the money. However, please, for the love of Lloyd, don't pick a job just because of the money. You'll eventually hate it, burn out and likely won't do a very good job. The exception is for something like private equity, where you usually have to do 2 years of banking to land a good PE job. Then you just grind through for 2 years to get where you want to be.
