Investment Ops, Exit Ops
I know this has seemingly been discussed ad nauseam here but exit ops for Investment Ops roles have almost exclusively been discussed in the context of moving on to IB. If one were to accept an investment ops position for a period of time and try to move to Asset Management or ER how difficult would that be? Is this position given the same disrespect as it is in the IB community?
Do cfa, and you have a chance. If you act like other ops people, you’ll be treated like other ops people. Don’t lose hope and you’ll be fine. But if you do the same thing, you can’t expect a different result. I know people that moved from ops to research after doing cfa. Also, it’s easier to move in a buyside firm.
I've already passed the first level of the CFA. But nearing closer and closer to graduation I'm unsure if I'm going to be able to get an ER/Asset Management job. I have a second round interview with pretty large investment firm doing investment ops and a second round interview with Wells Fargo for a financial analyst position. Which would be better for moving into asset management/ER later on?
