I've applied to a number of spots, and would like to apply to some more in person. Will be traveling to the city I'd like to work in next week and would like to get some good advice from this forum. This is in wealth management, keep in mind, so I'm hoping this approach might carry a little more significance given that, in my opinion, entry level WM positions face clients earlier.
This was asked once and the only things I got from that thread was a) it might be a good idea to get in contact with someone in the firm beforehand and b) that being prepared for an interview right there is a good idea.
More specifically, have any of you had experience with this before either doing it yourself or been on the other end having someone come into your firm?

Yea.......don't do that. Online application portals exist for a reason. Chances are unless you're applying to McDonalds, they wont have a nice stack of applications and a pen waiting by the door for you. No easier way to lose out on a job than proving you don't even understand how to apply for one.

Just don't show up to the firm for any reason at all unless you are invited. If you're keen on taking advantage of being in town go for something more subtle like asking someone at the firm if you could sit down for an informational interview.
Most firms have security - so crazy applicants and what not cant barge in - so don't even bother.
Sounds like I have my answer. Trying my best to get some people out for coffee/informationals, thanks for the advice.
Seriously, though, not even a casual "check in on the resume"? A phone call just seems kind of half assed, I wouldn't be walking in demanding to see a hiring manager.
